A Great Sunday Read!

I read this story, and well, it just filled my heart with love. In case you're wondering, it's a story about a NASCAR driver, his Abuelita, and their family's journey to the USA. So go ahead, read it! It's really a good story.

My heart is a little sad. Today marks the last NASCAR race of the season. I'm not going to tell you who I'm cheering on. Or where my favorite driver currently sits in the standings. But it will be a sad 3 months until the Daytona 500. What am I supposed to do with my Sundays? It's been a while since I've had a free Sunday.

So go read Aric's story. I'm telling you, it's a good one. Me? I'm heading out. I have a 10K to run this morning. Wish me luck. I need it! I'm still fighting this cough/cold/flu. And my training has been hit and miss for the last 2 months. Happy Sunday! ♫

Rained Out

Well, it's official. The NASCAR race was rained out today. Yes, I was ready. Stacks of charts, the boys' lunches, and some crochet. But no deal! The rain came. And Martinsville racing has to wait until tomorrow.

What is that? I watch NASCAR racing at work? Yes I do! Because we have 10 little boys that LOVE it! They live for Sundays. They're all patients who pretty much live at the hospital. Sundays are the highlight of their week. And they can't stand for people to bother them during the race.

Dr. S noticed that the boys always wanted to pile up into one room. And they would get annoyed at nurses who would bother them. They're between 4-8 years old. He also noticed my "Jeff Gordon" scrubs that I wear every Sunday. :) So began my Sundays with the boys...

Every Sunday, we have a full day. When you work in PEDS, Sundays are our "Growth Days." We do the most charting on Sundays. And we make sure our kids are still growing. We have "1st years" that come and do the measurements and weight of every patient in PEDS, PICU, and NICU. I have to analyze them. So why not do it, while taking care of "The Boys."

Now on Sundays, I collect charts of kids that I have to evaluate for nutrition. Then as the measurements are taken, the charts are delivered to me. Then I get to take care of "The Boys." I evaluate and check them throughout the race. The only other person that comes in is Dr. S. And we make our way to one of the big family rooms. It's a room for any family members that decide to stay overnight at the hospital. But it's HUGE! And there is a gynormous TV. So we hangout in there.

All the boys cheer for different drivers. They all try to get me to forget about "Super G." But I refuse. He's my driver. Little M, he is so into Dale Jr. The boy has his hospital room covered in Dale Jr. memorabilia! But we all sit there and cheer for our guys. For the entire race. I usually have to bribe them to eat their lunches. Lunchtime happens to be at the time most of the races begin. And then, they end by dinnertime. Some days are good...some are bad. But we enjoy our Sundays. :)

Until this week. The rain came. And now our race is postponed until tomorrow. I usually go to "Rounds" on Mondays. In the PEDS units, it usually takes the entire morning. Then I go home. But tomorrow, I'll be hanging with "The Boys." Because they insisted. And Dr. S tries to keep the peace in all 3 PEDS units. So tomorrow, I'll be cheering for "Super G." ♫

Happy Birthday...New Blog

Today I decided to start a blog for my family. Yes, I've been blogging for years. My friends like hearing about all of my silliness. And for the last few years, it has helped us to stay in touch. It got me thinking, I should really start a blog to keep in touch with my family. You know, I don't see them much.

So here we go. Welcome to my blog! I'm not sure what in the heck I'm going to post about. But I will try to keep you up-to-date with my life. Because, I know I don't go home much. And when I do, I tend not see many people. But I figured, this is a nice way to stay in touch. I hope you enjoy. I would love to hear from you. Comments are always welcomed. And they tend to make me smile!

But I better get going. I've got a ton of stuff to do today. Yes, I'm working on my birthday. I've been here since Friday. But I don't mind. I get to watch the NASCAR race with the boys. They always make my Sunday! And I'm looking forward to "Pancake Sunday." :) It's pretty exciting...even if I'm feeling old today.

My friends came by...at midnight. And I got a Serenata. They are so sweet. A even brought me a cake. Strawberry and chocolate. The man knows me! M and B had their twins. Yes, my Goddaughter was born on my birthday! And I got to deliver My Lil' Cowgirl! How cool is that? Dr. S and Dr. M got me some neat presents too!

It's only 3AM. And I already feel so blessed. I have so many people that love me. Including Big O. He got up in the middle of the night to wish me a Feliz Cumpleanos! I always wanted real brothers and sister. Growing up, that's all I ever wanted. But instead, God had a different path for me. He included all of these amazing people in my life! Mi hombrecitos...they're the brothers I never had. Thank you for being incredible friends! You know, you're more like family! So Welcome new and old...I hope you enjoy the ride! ♫
